Antoinette (Toni) Taylor Recognized for Community Service Initiatives,
Successful Business Startup
RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 24, 2009 – When Antoinette (Toni) Taylor decided to return to college for a Master of Business Administration, she saw it as another item the business world recommended, but, one she thought was not truly necessary. She changed her mind after attending her first day of class at Strayer University.
“I realized from the first class that I was going to be able to apply what I learned to what I do at work every day,” she said. “I took concepts from lectures and textbook readings that I was able to use and experienced immediate success from that.”
The end result was starting her own business, JASZ Technology Inc., with several fellow classmates and her husband. The company, which started as a side business run out of a spare bedroom in Taylor’s home, now has 16 employees, a half dozen subcontractors and the contract to develop and maintain training and certification tracking software for the Department of Defense.
Taylor, 41, of Raleigh, accepted Strayer University’s Outstanding Alumna Award during the school’s Aug. 22 commencement ceremony in Charlotte. The award recognizes significant achievement by alumni. Strayer University will award degrees to 10,000 adult students – a record for the 117-year-old University – at six regional ceremonies in 2009.
Taylor is driven to make the world a better place, whether it is working on new technology software, volunteering at a soup kitchen, or practicing more sustainable business and living solutions. In 2008, her home earned the Certified Wildlife Habitat designation from the Wildlife Habitat Council. “I’m interested in green living and in addition to composting and recycling, I added rain barrels, bird feeders, birth baths and non-toxics for pest control,” she said. “Plus, as a technology supplier, I don’t use a lot of paper.”
Outside of work Taylor started a back-to-school outreach program at her church to provide school supplies to needy children and a winter coat and blanket drive. She also coordinates an annual one-day outdoor soup kitchen in downtown Raleigh.
“When you’re standing outside in the cold serving soup, you really feel the impact of what homeless people are going through,” she said.
Taylor served in the Army for 11 years, and as a disabled veteran – she injured her back during a rappelling accident in South Korea – she knows what it means to overcome obstacles.
“People should remember that we all have challenges whether it’s time constraints, learning disabilities or physical disabilities,” she said. “When I was in school, I had a family, a full-time job and I was starting a business. If you set your intentions to finish something, you will find a way even if you have to give up some things. In the end it’s worth it.”

| JASZ Technology Presenting at the 21st Annual SSTC Conference How the PCSS is Revolutionizing Information Assurance and Security Credentialing will be presented at the SSTC 2009.
Raleigh, North Carolina, November 4, 2008 – An abstract paper written by JASZ Technology President and CEO, Antoinette (Toni) Taylor, has been accepted for presentation at the Twenty First Annual Systems and Software Technology Conference (SSTC 2009), to be held 20-23 April 2009 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
An abstract titled ‘How the PCSS is Revolutionizing Information Assurance and Security Credentialing’, has been accepted by a panel of peer reviewers for presentation at the Twenty First Annual Systems and Software Technology Conference (SSTC 2009). The paper will be presented by its Author, Antoinette (Toni) Taylor. Ms. Taylor is the Program Manager for the Defense-Wide Voucher Management Program for Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES). Over the past four years Ms. Taylor has become a subject matter expert in the areas of credentialing. Encompassing training, certification, and licensing. She has been called upon by DANTES and Defense Information Assurance (DIAP) to speak on these areas at a number of conferences and workshops.
The Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) has successfully managed the training and certification of service members for years. DANTES and DIAP worked together to execute the development and monitoring of a DoD-wide Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program (IA WIP) voucher program. Under DoD 8570.01-M, the IA WIP required an enterprise-wide electronic method for; authorizing approved personnel in IA positions for testing examination preparedness, issuing and scheduling of training and training materials, an electronic method for purchasing, receiving, and issuing examination vouchers to DoD personnel world-wide, and to send and receive data from DoD agencies and DoD certification vendors. The Personnel Certification Support System (PCSS 2.0©) is the software engine behind this program. The abstract to be presented at SSTC 2009 tells the story of how the PCSS has changed how Information Assurance and discretionary training and certification is delivered to a mobile workforce world-wide.
The Software Technology Conference (STC) was first held in 1989, sponsored by the Air Force through the Software Technology Support Center at Hill AFB, UT, to provide information and training on software engineering issues and technologies. Approximately 200 individuals attended that three-day conference with 15 vendors exhibiting. Since that time, the number of participants, presentations, and exhibiting vendors at the conference has continually grown.
In 1993 the conference expanded to encompass subjects of interest to all branches of the service and to provide a forum for the exchange of information between the joint services. The 1993 and subsequent conferences have been jointly sponsored by the United States Army, United States Marine Corps, United States Navy, and United States Air Force. In 1996, the conference added the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) as a co-sponsor. In 2004, the conference name was changed to the Systems and Software Technology Conference (SSTC) which reflected the incorporation of a more in-depth systems engineering aspect relevant to the value of this unique, joint collaboration. The conference is touted as the premier systems and software technology conference relating to the Department of Defense. The conference focuses on matching problems with solutions as representatives from industry, government, and academia present their ideas and solutions through tutorialsand presentations. Resources:
